Custom Permalinks

Google likes relavent keywords in the URL structure.  i.e florenceroad.com/seo-optimisation intead of florenceroad.com/p-65.  It helps Google identify what the page is about.  Wordpress has the features built in to change your permalinks, and we always set your permalink structure to ‘google friendly’ strings.

Optimised Descriptions and Titles

Descriptions and titles help search engines understand what content is contained in the post/page.  The themes that we use for your site have options to put in custom descriptions, alternatively we also recommend plugins such as WordPress SEO plugin, which is a more advanced SEO tool.  Ensuring your titles and descriptions have your priority keywords repeated will help improve your ranking for those keywords.

Image Optimisation

As we consume more data, naturally Google starts to prioritise the indexing of such content.  One simple strategy to improve your blended search results, is to put in alt tags and descriptions in images.  Again this is something built into wordpress.

 XML Site Maps

XML site maps are a feed which contains all your site information.  By using the Yoast WordPress SEO plugin we can automatically send the updated feed through to Google and Bing so they are across all changes.  We install this plugin as standard in all our websites.

Breadcrumbs

Breadcrumbs are used at the top of the page to help navigate through the site.  They are a simple hyperlink menu, split out by heirachy.  All our themes have the option for breadcrumbs.

Heading Tags

Heirachy of information is really important for Google to identify which keywords should have more importance than others.  So when we build your site, we utilise H1 tags once, to identify the post or page title, and then we use <h2>, <h3>, <h4> for subsequent headings.

The Need for Speed

Users like faster loading websites and are more likely to stick around and read your content.  Rule of thumb now with SEO is, what’s good for the user is good for the engine.  We host all our websites with speed demons WP Engine.  They are world renowned for delivering fast and secure websites.

Full Security Built In

The main flaw with WordPress is the relatively insecure structure, which means it’s really important to maintain strong security principles.  If your website is hacked, you can be banned by search engines, and even with the removal of the suscpiscious code it can take months to be fully reinstated.   WP Engine our preferred host, provides full managed security to minimise any instances of hacking.  Whilst nobody is 100% safe, WP Engine takes our sites to the 99.9% threshold.
